I walked down the hallway of a Vancouver apartment building ready to meet my very pregnant client for the first time. She was standing in her doorway with the warmest smile, and the most perfectly round bump before I even got close to the door. I remember thinking (1) that bump is too perfectly round to be real. (2) I already don’t want to leave.
We laughed, we talked, we hung out. One of my favourite elements about in-home lifestyle sessions, is how intimate they are. She wanted something personal, with no fuss. So, that was our mood, relaxed with no fuss. So effortless to photograph, and easy to talk to. Our time was genuine, it’s honestly amazing to be apart of someones personal memory like that.
Eventually I did have to leave, but I knew I’d be back in no time to meet their son or daughter – it was a surprise! Which by the way, with two kids of my own, it amazes me how people have the strength to wait. I can only imagine there’s not many other surprises that can top something like that.
On boxing day, bright and early I made my way back dying to meet the little one. This was my second boxing day in a row skipping the retail lines and making my way to photograph a brand new family. I wouldn’t change it for the world! I mean, I love a good sale, but rushing to buy more after gifting your loved ones (and hopefully a little donating too), nothing beats slowing down and appreciating family.
They are gems, aren’t they?! And they made the most perfect little son.
